Based on resolver's experience, local education authority maintained schools must provide a free mid-day meal to pupils if their parents receive Jobseekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support or Universal Credit. A free mid-day meal will also be granted to a pupil if they qualify for asylum seeker support under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999. Local education authorities are also required to provide a mid-day meal free of charge to pupils attending special schools who require a special diet and / or are boarders.
