If the gym has renewed your membership without your permission, you should firstly check the terms and conditions of your contract, which should have details about when and how you can cancel and what the charges will be. In 2011 the High Court ruled it was unfair for a gym to lock people into a contract for longer than a year.

If the terms and conditions of your contract state that the gym can automatically renew your contract, then you can argue that the terms of the contract are unfair and should be able to cancel your contract without penalty.

If you are still being charged for a membership that you were within your rights to cancel, you should write a formal letter of complaint to the manager.
