If I can’t resolve my complaint with the tradesman or company, who can I talk to?

There isn’t really a regulatory body that covers the whole repair, maintenance and improvement (RMI) sector, but the company may belong to a membership organisation with whom you can raise your complaint. If the company is also a member of TrustMark you can then raise your issue or complaint with TrustMark if the issue cannot be resolved by the membership organisation.

What is TrustMark?

TrustMark is a quality mark for tradesmen that ensures members have a top reputation and operate in a trustworthy manner. It also helps to ensure that quality standards are kept high and that processes and complaints procedures can be standardised as far as possible. TrustMark's aim is to help you find local trusthworthy trades. TrustMark is a not-for-profit company lisensed by the UK Government.

resolver is working with TrustMark at the moment to add in the companies that are members of TrustMark into our system. The objective is to make it simple and easy to raise and resolve issues with TrustMark members. Where a TrustMark member is within resovler, then resolver will help you through every step of the complaint process, helping you understand your rights and to guide you through the process.  

Which scheme operators are members of TrustMark?

TrustMark scheme operators includes the Federation of Master Builders, Association of Property Landscapers, B&Q, CERTASS, Diversity, ECA, Dulex, Fairtrades, FENSA, Glass & Glazing Federation, Homebase, Magnet, NAPIT, NICEIC, Property Care Association, TreeCare Approved, Quick Step and the NCCA.

What if the issue cannot be resolved?

TrustMark will recommend mediation between yourself and the trader as this is a cost effective method of resolution and is focused on delivering a win/win solution.

What if I cannot find the company in resolver?

resolver is currenly working with TrustMark and is going through a process of adding all members. If you have a complaint and cannot find the firm then contact resolver and we will see if we can help, via speaktous@resolver.co.uk or feel free to contact TrustMark.

What are your next steps?

If you’re not satisfied with the initial response from the organisation you have an issue with, our escalation process will let you know when you can raise your complaint to the next level of seniority and, ultimately to an ombudsman or regulator, where appropriate.
