Based on resolver’s experience to date, if you move home you must inform your insurer otherwise your policy may be invalid. You may have to pay an admin fee to make this change – check your policy small print. If it is a new policy and you are going to be charged a fee for making the change it might be worth cancelling the policy and starting again (within the 14-day cooling-off period) but check your policy for any incurable charges. If you fail to update your contact details (e.g. a mobile phone number or email address) it will not render your policy invalid, but may make the process of claiming for the gadget on your insurance more challenging. Contact your insurer and provide them with your new details – if you have an online provider you may be able to log into your policy online and do it yourself. Although some insurers allow you to make a contact number change for free, others may charge you an administration fee.

If you think the charges you face for changing your policy are unfairly high - or if you have had to make a change because of what you think is a mistake on the insurer’s part - you can complain to the company directly. Ask for an address for customer services, and write giving clear details of your case - such as what happened, when, and why you think you have been unfairly charged.
